Waiheke Boating Club began its activities in 1956
Past Commodore Grant Crawford has uncovered that in January 1900, the Auckland Star newspaper wrote about the Waiheke Annual Regatta.
Starting in Arran bay, it referenced various divsions including one just for Waiheke settlers and another for Dinghy races each for one or two Ladies. The Northern Co’s steamers transported spectators from Auckland City on a two hour cruise each way, to watch the festivities. So we know that club racing has been enjoyed for more than 120 years around this coast.
A past club Commodore, Geoff Muir is currently researching our history. If you have an intersting piece of history to add please make contact with us.
